NEC FC have continued to reshape their squad ahead of the second round of the season by securing the services of attacking midfielder Pius Obuya on a two-year deal.
Obuya makes his return to the Uganda Premier League after five years abroad in Serbia, where he plied his trade in the second division with Kabel Novi Sad before later turning out for FK RadniÄŤki Sremska Mitrovica. The creative playmaker had been unattached since parting ways with RadniÄŤki earlier this season.
A former Uganda Cubs and Hippos standout, Obuya last featured in the top flight at home with Maroons FC in 2021. He joins NEC FC as a replacement for Titus Ssematimba, who recently completed a move to Nairobi United in the Kenyan Premier League.
The midfielder becomes the latest addition in an active mid-season window for the Bugolobi-based side. NEC FC have already brought in Richard Basangwa, Hakim Wandera and Muhammad Ssenoga Kagawa from Express FC, alongside goalkeeper Juma Mutebi from Lugazi FC.
Speaking after completing the move, Obuya expressed optimism about the new challenge. “It’s a new chapter, let’s get rolling,” he said. “I will keep working hard every day with the dream of earning a place in the senior national team.”
Under head coach Kaddu Badru, NEC FC will be aiming to improve on their first-round showing after finishing the opening half of the campaign seventh on the table with 20 points.
