Masons Celebrate First ‘Funamu Ne Hima’ Campaign Cash Payouts

Kampala — Masons across Uganda are celebrating after receiving their first cash payouts under Hima Cement’s Funamu Ne Hima loyalty promotion, with payments beginning in December 2025, just weeks after the campaign’s launch.

The six-month programme rewards masons with cash for every bag of Hima Multipurpose cement they open and register, marking one of the company’s clearest shifts yet from dealer-focused incentives to direct rewards for end users—the workers who physically shape Uganda’s built environment.

“The more tokens one submits, the more money one earns,” Hima Cement Marketing and Innovation Manager Philemon Mubiru said, highlighting the volume-based design of the promotion.

For many masons, the December payouts were both unexpected and timely.

In Mukono, Moses Kato said his first payment confirmed that the promotion delivers on its promise.

“When the money came, I honestly thought it was a mistake,” Kato said.

“But it was real. I used it to clear school fees. Now every bag I open, I make sure I submit the code.”

In Masaka, Sarah Nabirye described the payout as a rare moment of recognition for masons.

“This is the first time a cement company has remembered us,” Nabirye said.

“We are the ones lifting the bags and doing the work. Receiving money feels like respect.”

Up north in Lira, John Okello said the end-of-month cash eased daily costs and encouraged him to submit more tokens.

“I received my money at the end of the month and it helped me with transport to sites,” Okello said. “Now I know if I submit more codes, I earn more.”

In Mbale, Abdul Karim said the payout arrived during a difficult period for construction work.

“Construction work can slow down, but this money came when I needed it,” Karim said. “It is encouraging. You feel like the company sees you.”

Hima Cement launched the loyalty programme in December 2025, branding it Funamu Ne Hima—Luganda for “Benefit With Hima”—to signal a deliberate focus on masons as the core users of its Multipurpose cement.

Mubiru said the campaign was designed to directly reward the fundi.

“Before, it used to be just for the dealers,” she said. “But today the campaign extends to the masons.

Every bag you open has a cash reward. Each code equals cash. The more codes you send, the more money you win.”

The programme uses unique codes printed inside every bag of Hima Multipurpose cement. Masons register by dialling *204# or via the Hima Loyalty app on the Play Store and App Store, submit codes, and receive cash at the end of each month after submitting at least ten.

Commercial Director Israel Tinkasimire described masons as central to Uganda’s construction fabric.

“The dams, the bridges, the roads, the homes we live in—these structures are moulded by the hands of the fundis,” he said. “Being part of you from the start means giving back to the people who actually make these structures worth living in.”

For now, the promotion applies only to Hima Multipurpose cement, with the company set to assess performance before extending it to other products.

As payouts continue to reach masons across the country, early reactions suggest the campaign is not only putting cash in pockets—but also reshaping how builders relate to one of Uganda’s largest cement brands.
