The European Committee of the Regions' action in support of Ukraine is multifaceted, ranging from political advocacy, exchange of know-how and facilitating the representation in Brussels of Ukrainian cities, regions and their associations.
The CoR, together with partner associations of local and regional authorities from the EU and Ukraine, launched this Alliance in June 2022 to support the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.
The CoR hosts the Alliance's secretariat and organises events, workshops and conferences on its behalf. The main political highlight is the Alliance's yearly participation in the international Ukraine Recovery Conferences, to which joint recommendations from EU and Ukrainian LRAs are brought.
The Working Group strengthens the relations between the EU and Ukraine by bringing together CoR members, EU institutions, and representatives from Ukrainian cities, regions and local authorities. Alongside the CoR's support actions and in light of the important decisions taken by the EU in relation to the European future of Ukraine, the Working Group is the political body that monitors the developments in Ukraine with particular attention to decentralisation reform, capacity building for local and regional authorities, and the alignment with the EU acquis on Regional Policy.
The CoR regularly updates a set of tailor-made support measures for the local and regional authorities of Ukraine, both in the context of Ukraine's reconstruction and accession to the EU. These include a commitment to strengthen the local and regional dimension of Ukraine Recovery Conference and to launch a Joint Consultative Committee between the CoR and Ukraine. It also aims to reinforce advocacy for the local and regional authorities in view of the next EU Multi-Annual Financial Framework, multiply partnerships at the level of cities and regions, boost cross-border cooperation, and engage with a broader range of stakeholders such as business community. For more information, please refer below to the latest version of the support package.
As a result of the joint efforts of the European Committee of the Regions, its Members and Association of Ukrainian cities, children from Ukraine have the opportunity to have relaxed holidays in cities and regions across Europe.
The TIPS4UA programme, implemented by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) in cooperation with U-LEAD with Europe, is designed to address the specific needs of Ukrainian local and regional authorities.
CIVEX members call for urgent aid for Ukrainian cities, and highlight need for more communication on enlargement and a more strategic approach to the Black Sea.
